Machine Shop (#874)(an instance of Generic Room with Surfaces made by Trismegistos)Once filled with huge, modernist machinery manned by Social Realist titans, this vast factory building stands mute testament to the Death of the Worker. Smashed hulks, neglected conveyors ... automation and information tech have done their job well. In a final irony, a corner of this space has been commandeered and retooled as a robotics workshop. On racks, benches and the floor you see spare parts and half-completed prototypes ... photovoltaic beetles, faceless Westworld-style Fembots, gigantic Survival Research-inspired ritual combat drones ... Cables snake everywhere, and there is the sharp green smell of circuit boards. You notice some details: These bots, based on a 1970's concept, look like old Disney animatronic dummies, but with faceplates removed to reveal staring eyeballs and circuitry.
